Definition of Suicide- Suicide is death caused by injuring oneself with the intent to die. A suicide attempt is when someone harms themselves with the intent to end their life, but they do not die as a result of their actions, (CDC Website).
Suicide behavior- Suicide causes immeasurable pain, suffering, and loss to individuals, families, and communities nationwide, (Mental Health website).
Warning signs of suicide-If someone you know is showing one or more of the following behaviors, he or she may be thinking about suicide. Don’t ignore these warning signs; get help immediately talking about -wanting to die or to kill oneself or looking for a way to kill oneself; feeling hopeless or having no reason to live; feeling trapped or in unbearable pain; being a burden to others; increasing the use of alcohol or drugs; acting anxious or agitated; behaving recklessly; sleeping too little or too much; withdrawing or feeling isolated; showing rage or talking about seeking revenge; and displaying extreme mood swings, (Mental Health website).
Suicide Prevention-Suicide prevention starts with recognizing the warning signs and taking them seriously. If you think a friend or family member is suicidal, there’s plenty you can do to help save a life (Help Guide).
